Volunteering at the Market

The Del Ray Farmers Market is volunteer-run and volunteer-organized.

Volunteer market managers set up and break down the market every week. They support the market’s vendors in a variety of ways during the market. They are there to assist customers.

On average, volunteer market managers will work one 2 1/2 hour shift a month throughout the year. There is an opening shift that usually runs from 7:30am – 10:00am and a closing shift from 10:00am – 12:30pm. There is usually just one market manager working each shift, except during set-up and break down.

During the market, they can expect to ensure vendor and patron safety, watch vendors’ stands if they need to step away, direct pet owners where they can and cannot bring their pets, get change for vendors, and supporting any market activities. Depending on whether they are working the opening or closing shift, they will help set up the market or break it down, helping vendors unload or load from their vehicles, and directing traffic, as needed.

Beyond ensuring a successful market each Saturday, volunteer market managers collaborate to develop market programming, make improvements to the market, and assist with social media and email communication.

We are always seeking volunteers to help keep the market running every week.
